Dedicated to educating people about elephant seals and other marine life and to teaching stewardship for this special place called the Central Coast of California.
Friends of the Elephant Seal counts on our over 80 dedicated volunteer guides to enhance public awareness and respect for the wonders of the natural marine environment. The docents have talked with three-quarters of a million visitors.
While the docents work as volunteers, at no cost to the Friends, the annual budget of approximately $100,000 include the cost of outreach and education efforts to the public on elephant seals, training and education of docents, and office assistance and support of docents. The Friends is funded entirely by contributions, memberships, occasional grants, and its own fundraising event - Sunset at San Simeon.
